Colorado Springs is more than simply the second largest city in the state of
Colorado and a major tourist destination for those looking to take advantage
of all that the surrounding outdoor wonderlands have to offer, it is an economic
stronghold in a number of industries for the country. ColoradoSpringsZip.com
is meant as a guide of the whole city for those thinking of coming on a visit
or those who are planning to come to work or live. With 380,000 people living
within the city limits and about 600,000 total in the metropolitan area, Colorado
Springs is not the mega-city that you'll find with many areas in America.
It is a beautiful mid-sized city with everything that you could need and a little
bit of peace and quiet if you want it.

The military and the high-tech and tourism sectors are the leaders in Colorado
Springs's economy. The defense sector located in the city is fueled by
the five different military outfits in the region. Fort Carson is the city's
largest army base and by the end of 2009 will be nearly doubled in terms of
its population thanks to the addition of the Fourth Infantry Division. The remaining
four areas are all part the United States Air Force and are the Peterson and
Schriever Air Force bases, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (commonly
known as NORAD) located in the nearby Cheyenne Mountain Air Station and the
United States Air Force Academy. These are home to a number of initiatives for
the national missile defense system. Others in the defense sector who have locations
in the city include Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and Boeing, just to name
a few.
If you're not looking to work on military contracts but still have a
mind for science than perhaps you should look into the local high-tech businesses.
There are a number of companies manufacturing detailed electronic equipment
and top-of-the-line software. Because of the city's favorable location
and large market for educated employees, many of these businesses are looking
to expand and new companies are in talks to come to the area. Some of the high-tech
companies currently operating in Colorado are Verizon Business, Hewlett-Packard,
Intel and Atmel.
Colorado's tourist industry brings in a variety of people each year who
come for several different reasons. Old Colorado City and the Downtown area
are popular with those looking for historic areas and shopping. Pike Peak has
an annual marathon and hill climb. And Garden of the Gods Cathedral Valley is
for those looking for Colorado's majestic scenery.
There is really not enough that you can say about the city of Colorado Springs.
For those looking for that serene home in the mountains where you can still
find places to work and play, there really is no other place you should be.
